Every beagle will pull on the leash at some point in their life.

Beagles were never meant to be on leashes. They were meant to run around the countryside, making their own decisions and with no instructions from humans.

When we domesticated them and put them on a leash, we took away what it means to be a beagle - tenacity, decision-making and the ability to socialise on their terms.

It's no surprise that nearly all beagles will pull unrelentlessly on a leash because their brains are telling them to go investigate - scent, track or chase. The leash is holding them back.

Your emotions, beliefs and expectations can have an impact on your beagle's behaviour. For decades it has been drummed into us that dogs should obey and listen to their master. This belief was flawed and has been debunked since the year 2000. Each breed has its own wants, needs and desires and training has to match their gentics. Beagles were never meant to be heal dogs and trying to make them into one is going to cause all of you unneeded stress.
Worrying about what others think whether that includes friends and family is exhausting because you have a hunter, not a breed of dog that was bred to listen to their humans and do as they are asked like most other people have. If you train your beagle with the right training, you will have immense success, more so than generic training that is all about getting your dog to walk to heal.
You have been conditioned to believe that a dog should behave a certain way and obey, when the reality is beagles are never going to be the dog that walks in a straight line continuously without stopping. They are a stop/start breed and when you accept this you can relax more, into the walk.

Only Positive Training Is Used To Train Your Beagle...

Beagles are positive-reward-based dogs, which means it makes no sense to use aversive equipment to teach them to not pull us on a walk...

Beagle Leash Pulling Training Is Very Different To Generic Training

We have to work with our beagles and their hunting instincts.

Beagles are not focus dogs. This is why generic leash work rarely works. We actually don't want them looking up at us, we want them nosed down doing what comes naturally to them.

They weren't bred like a labrador or spaniel to hang off their humans every word and look lovingly into their owners eyes!

Trying to train them to work like this is not only frustrating for you, it is also expecting our beagles to do something that doesn't come naturally to them - walking to heal.

Equipment - Using the right equipment teaches them to slow down their walk. There isn't a one fit all and in the training Kellie will go over three different types of equipment you can try.
The length of the leash is so important- we actually rarely want to walk our beagles on a 1.5 metre standard leash unless it isn't safe to use a longer leash. Kellie will go through the leash options and why you want to let your beagle walk out in front of you rather than by your side.
It's not all about the equipment - Kellie will teach you some techniques to use a longside the equipment to speed up your training. And also, where you walk, your beagle will either encourage them to pull more or less.
